After a two-year battle with cancer, Jessie Mastan passed away at City of Hope Hospital on March 22. Mastan was 14. She played for LAFC and ran track. In 2008, she was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone disease that spread into her lungs. She went into remission and appeared on the City of Hope/City of Duarte float at the annual Rose Parade. But the cancer returned earlier this year and complications set in. Please keep Jessie and her family in your prayers at this difficult time.

The LAFC Foundation has established a fund in Jessie’s name to assist the Mastan family. Anyone wishing to contribute may send a check, payable to LAFC — Team Jessie. Please send your checks to the LAFC Foundation, 336 South Euclid Ave., Pasadena, Calif. 91101. A list of donors will be provided to the Mastan family. Please indicate on your check if you would like to remain anonymous. For large donations, please call the LAFC Office at 626-685-9503.

LAFC Chelsea girls program begins 2010 on a very positive note, and has taken some important steps on the road to becoming the best girl’s program in Southern California.

Our younger teams have completed competition at the State level and represented the club well. The following teams had excellent runs at the state level: GU9 team (Laura Janke) semi-finalist in state cup; GU10 (Louis Hunt) quarter-finalist in state cup, and Cal Cup Champions, GU12 (Manny Martins) quarter finalists in national cup, GU12 (Louis Hunt) Cal Cup Champions, and the GU12 (Jarda) Cal Cup quarter finalists.

We are also proud to see our players excelling individually. A few of our players have been recognized by Cal South (the state’s soccer governing body) with selection to the Olympic Development Program. Chloe Castaneda, Cheyenne Delgado, and Nicole Joseph were all selected to the 1997 ODP player pool, and are currently in camp working towards a spot on the state’s team. Chloe Montano was selected to the 1998 YOP player pool and will be joining the training camp the weekend of March 27.

Congratulations to our teams and players.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates as our older teams will be competing in the state tournaments, and our players will be striving to achieve success in being selected into state/regional/national teams, as well as making college commitments.

GO LAFC!!!!!!

LAFC Chelsea boys U13 added National Cup title to their trophy cabinet after beating Real So Cal 6-0. After a heartbreaking loss last year in the semi final on PK’s, this was the goal for this team this season. The entire run at National Cup was stellar. They had 5 shutouts in 6 games, 30 goals for and only 1 goal against. They have now won every major tournament in Southern California, a remarkable achievement for which the entire LAFC club is proud.
